We had an awesome time yesterday saying “Cheerio” to our 5th graders and praying for them as they transition to middle school and Student Ministry. Don’t forget next Sunday is Promotion Sunday. That means that rising 1st graders transition to elementary & rising 6th graders transition to Student Ministry.

Here are the questions from this morning's message ON MISSION: A THEOLOGY OF MISSION. Use these questions in your MLGs, for a study/application with friends...anyway you want! Have a great night! This Sunday’s Sticky Questions “On Mission: A Theology of Mission” John 4:23-24; Luke 19:10; Acts 26:15-19; Matt. 28:19-20; Acts 1:8 Read the passages together to get a sense of the connection of MISSION between God the Father, Jesus, Paul, and us, Jesus’ Church. Pastor Tom spoke about how we measure success in our culture today and how that has affected the church. What were some of the things that he mentioned that our culture or church deems as a success? (Size of church, size of staff, big buildings, famous pastor, etc.) In the message, Pastor Tom gave this description of success: “achieving the mission that God has given the church to do.” How do you respond to that definition? How do you think that helps the church to define success? God’s mission is seeking more worshippers. Jesus’ mission is to seek and the save the lost. Paul is on mission to be faithful to be a witness. How consistent was God, Jesus, and Paul in keeping on mission? What do you think helped them to stay focused on mission? Pastor Tom said that being comfortable, or having all our bills paid, or having careful clear preaching, or passionate worship, isn’t what defines the church’s success. He said that living with our eyes on mission is success. How would you say that you’re doing personally in keeping your eyes on God’s mission for us? What keeps us from staying focused on mission? Pastor Tom said that making disciples is what our mission is. Not just making converts. Why do you think that Pastor Tom may a distinction between making converts and making disciples? How do you make a convert? How do you make a disciple? Which is easier and why? We need to understand two things as a church of God’s people living on mission. One is our message (the Gospel), and two, is our culture and how to communicate the Gospel to the culture. Which is easier for you to understand…the Gospel or understanding how to communicate to the culture? How can we get better at understanding the Gospel? When was the last time you had to explain the Gospel to someone? (for a brief summary of the Gospel, check out 1 Cor. 15:1-11). What has been helpful for you to do, read, or think, so that you can understand where our culture is today? How would you describe the culture of Ludington/Mason County? Open to the Gospel? Closed to the Gospel? Interested? Not Interested? What would you say are some key struggles or issues that people in Mason County are dealing with in their homes/families/work places? How could the Gospel reach into these areas through us? Spend some time sharing updates to prayers you have prayed, current prayer needs, or issues that you may be struggling with. Be sure to pray for our Pastoral Search Team and the search process. Pray for our by-laws to be understood well and that any questions would be discussed and answered. Pray for our church to be growing in our loving relationships with one another.
